02 Application engineering

Applications

Pad-mounted transformers for underground and compact surface distribution in Kosovo (10 / 20 / 35 kV), combining protected MV/LV compartments with ground-level installation for residential, commercial and industrial developments including projects in industrial parks, renewable energy and mining.

01

Underground distribution networks

Transformation at ground level in underground MV cable networks (10 / 20 / 35 kV), with protected compartments instead of a substation building. Suits cities and new developments where overhead lines are restricted and cable terminations must be enclosed.

02

Renewable and private distribution

Collector and auxiliary transformation for solar farms, wind sites and mine or plant private networks. Ground-level compartments simplify cable entry from underground collector circuits and can be configured to the owner protection scheme.

03

Commercial complexes and buildings

Shopping centers, office parks, hospitals and mixed-use complexes served from a utility cable ring. The compact footprint allows installation near the load, and fusing and switching options can be agreed with the network operator.

04 Construction and options

Technical resources and options

Typical configuration

Lockable steel enclosure with separate high-voltage and low-voltage compartments and tamper-resistant access, installed at ground level beside the load.

Available option

Feed configuration: radial, loop or terminal feed, with the MV switching and bushing arrangement matched to the cable network layout and agreed per project.

Available option

MV connection and cable termination: separable connectors, bushing wells and inserts, or cable-box terminations suited to the specified cable type.

Available option

Fusing and switching: protective fuses, load-break switching and arrester provisions can be built in according to the network protection philosophy.

Available option

LV compartment: LV terminals or busbars, protected outgoing circuits and space for metering or auxiliary equipment according to the utility requirement and IEC/EN and the KOSTT / KEDS / project technical specification.

Project engineering

Plinth and cable entry: concrete or fabricated base with cable pit, oil containment and sealing against water and vermin ingress, dimensioned to the site layout. Environmental engineering for wide seasonal temperature swings, frost and snow or ice loading: corrosion protection, ventilation, flood-risk placement and project-specific protection or monitoring are confirmed at project level.

Frequently asked questions

When should Pad-Mounted Transformers be selected instead of Pole-Mounted Transformers?

For Kosovo, choose Pad-Mounted Transformers when the main duties are Underground distribution and Renewable and private networks; compare Pole-Mounted Transformers when Overhead distribution and Utility distribution feeders better match the site. Final selection depends on the installation environment, network topology, fire or oil-containment requirements, rating and project specification.

How should the main configuration options for Pad-Mounted Transformers be selected?

Key choices include radial / loop / terminal feed, MV cable connectors and switching and fusing. Select them according to the load profile, connection arrangement, installation environment, protection philosophy and utility/EPC specification; items shown as options or project engineering are not automatic standard equipment.

What installation conditions should be confirmed for Pad-Mounted Transformers projects in Kosovo?

Confirm ambient temperature, altitude, humidity, dust or corrosion exposure, indoor/outdoor location, ventilation, access and maintenance clearances. For applications such as Underground distribution, Renewable and private networks and Commercial complexes, cooling, enclosure or insulation and protection should be reviewed during engineering rather than assuming one environmental class for the whole country.

Which standards and utility/project requirements should be confirmed in Kosovo?

Use KOSTT Electrical Equipment Code as the starting technical reference. Requirements from KOSTT / KEDS / ERO(ZRRE) should also be confirmed. Final losses, temperature rise, impedance, taps, accessories, tests and documentation must be checked against the applicable project specification; this page does not imply automatic approval by any authority.

What tests, drawings and documents should be agreed before the purchase order?

Confirm the applicable routine tests, general arrangement drawings, electrical datasheet, accessory list and inspection/test documents before manufacturing. Type or special tests, witnessing and additional reports should be specified when the project requires them. For Pad-Mounted Transformers, also confirm site-specific environmental and installation engineering.

What information does HKXR need to prepare a technical quotation?

Provide at least Rated capacity, Primary voltage, Secondary voltage, Phases, the selected radial / loop / terminal feed / MV cable connectors options, installation conditions and the applicable project or utility specification. If available, attach the SLD, datasheet or tender specification so the configuration can be reviewed before quotation.
